Cockapoo
Cockapoo
During the 20th century, Poodles and Cocker Spaniels ranked among the most popular dog breeds. A Cockapoo was first bred in the U.S. in the 1960s by an accidental mating between a Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. Cockapoos range in height from less than 10 inches to more than 15 inches, depending on the height of their Poodle parent.

But the dogs were dear, and Cockapoos started being bred by design. Pet parents adore the crossbreed for their intelligence, kind nature, and low-shedding coat. Today, Cockapoos rank as one of the most favored types of doodle breeds.
Taking care of a Cockapoo
Cockapoos are a gentle dog to have as a part of your household. They are playful, friendly, and always eager to hang out with other individuals and animals. Their cheerful nature makes them an excellent companion for kids, although play between children and dogs (regardless of breed) must always be monitored.
The Cockapoo’s easy-going nature also translates to not having to run marathons daily in order to exhaust them; this tiny dog possesses a moderate level of energy. They usually only require a few walks a day, a round of fetch, or a nice swim to keep them content. But whereas their exercise requirements are relatively low-maintenance, you will have to spend time (and money!) staying current on their grooming needs.
Cockapoos are small to medium-sized breeds with active personalities, a strong intelligence factor, and a strong desire for human interaction. They have a tendency to become close to their families and prefer to be in homes where a person will be present most of the time.

They need daily exercise, frequent grooming, and steady training. Their friendly nature makes them perfect for families, but their disliking of being left behind makes them potentially unsuitable for full-time employees without dog care arrangements.
Proper care and attention, and a Cockapoo can be a happy and affectionate member of your family.
Daily Life with a Cockapoo
Size and Space Requirements
The size of a Cockapoo often depends on the size of its parent dogs. When toy poodles are used as parents, the dogs will be smaller; with miniature or standard poodles, they will be larger. Average size is roughly 10–15 inches tall and weighing in the range of 5–15 kg.
Don’t let their small size fool you, though; they are lively and inquisitive—so a property with outdoor areas available would be best.
Temperament and Training
Cockapoos are affectionate, willing to please, and intelligent. Their friendly and affectionate nature makes them perfect for reward-based training, and they generally excel in well-organised surroundings.
They’re good with children, are gentle, and get along with other pets, but do need early socialisation and mental stimulation to keep them from becoming bored and developing undesirable habits.
Buying a Cockapoo Puppy
It is a great time finding the ideal puppy for you but one that also requires some serious planning and thought. The adorable little Cockapoo puppy will grow up to become an adult dog and will hopefully be with you for about 12-18 years. Choosing what type of Cockapoo suits you best is critical and you can assist in reducing the decision by considering the following:
- Size
- Type
- Coat colour
- Breeder
- Timing
Size
The Cockapoos can come in a range of sizes and will be determined by the breed of the parent dogs used. So, if you want a small Cockapoo then consider Toy Poodles crosses or American Cocker crosses. If you would like a slightly bigger Cockapoo then consider Miniature Poodle crosses etc. But this is just a guide and individual dogs can differ. Your breeder can provide you with an idea of the size the puppy will mature to but the ultimate guide of all is to observe the size of the parents.
