Cat furniture Cat There are only two kinds of cat parents in the world: those who will sacrifice their personal aesthetic to practical-bias cat furniture and those who will not. Now, thanks to the hippest creatives on the internet, you don’t have to compromise your personal aesthetic to the realm of beige shag cat trees.
Short answer: you and your cat can both enjoy it equally: beauty, longevity, and an unspoiled relationship untouched by the more, let’s say, superficially placed household expenditures. What follows are 16 items of simply modern cat furniture.

A Carrier/Bed Combo Cat furniture Cat
I’ve experimented with numerous carriers across the price range, and was surprised to find that Tuft and Paw’s Porto Cat Carrier (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is firm but soft, and won’t buckle under the weight of a heavy cat. I’ve used it to haul my cats to the vet, and have them burrowed in the car for a cross-country move. A few cats will quietly sleep in whatever carrier you’ve got, but I appreciate that it can be converted as a little bed by unzipping one side and opening up the faux shearling pad. It’s all zipped up with a frame, so you can flip it from formal carrier to flat out. That is even more versatility for getting particular cats in and out. Cat furniture Cat
An Upscale Carrier/Bed Combination
My cat Scylla is unusually finicky about where she sleeps, but she’s absolutely fixated on sleeping in the soft-sided Dagne Dover Kyoto pet carrier. (It’s a hit with our dog-parent staff too—WIRED writer Julian Chokkattu takes his pup to the beach in it.) The bag-bed form is logical from a cat’s point of view—it’s essentially a box, and cats adore those, with solid walls to provide them with a sense of security and mesh screens on front and back so that they can watch what’s going on outside.). Whereas most real cat beds, on the other hand, are not zip-off, washable, and cover-able, too. I also appreciate that it unfolds from the top, so much less wrestle-stuff-in for recalcitrant animals, and it’s TSA-approved (under an airplane seat) and provides Scylla with a comfortable familiar place whenever I have to travel with her. I come in the big size, which accommodates pets up to 20 pounds, but there is also a small size for pets under 15 pounds. Seat belt loops provide an added security feature for driving, and the entire bag flattens for easy storage. —Kat Merck Cat furniture Cat
Litter Boxes and Enclosures Cat furniture Cat
A Great Basic Litter Box
My cats are just fine with ordinary old litter boxes, and yours likely are as well. You can splurge a bit by having the boxes look like plants or keeping them hidden in side tables, but Tuft and Paw’s Cove litter box turns a generic litter pan into a luxury item. Cat furniture Cat

It’s heavy enough that it won’t tip over if your cats enjoy kicking. Cat furniture Cat
Talking of kicking, the hinged shelter holds litter and urine in—just in case your cat has a strong stream. The box even has a special spot for the included scoop and dustpan. I just hope you are able to buy the shelter on its own. Ironically, this box is incompatible with the brand’s litter box enclosure, but the company did come out with an improved Cubby version ($69) which is compatible with its sleek Haven Enclosure ($699)—we haven’t tested the Haven, but we’ve lusted after it from afar.
The Best Litter Box Enclosure Cat furniture Cat
Putting a litter box inside an item of furniture designed to hide it will provide your cats with some privacy, cover odors, and hide wee turds from your visitors.
Tuft and Paw’s litter box enclosure is the most beautiful piece of furniture I’ve ever seen, but it costs more than most of us have to spend. Cat furniture Cat
WIRED reviewer Louryn Strampe has tested this Rena Litter Box Enclosure at Wayfair, though, and you can usually get it for about $120ish (and generally even cheaper). It just isn’t quite as cute as Tuft and Paw, but it doesn’t resemble a poop bucket at all, and there is plenty of room up top for some trim to make it fit in with your home better. Strampe reported that her cats adjusted to it immediately, and they all look as content as she does that they no longer glare at each other when they are eliminating. It is her favorite cat gadget. My only suggestion is to maintain cleaning it. Smells being concealed are pleasant, but if it retains too much stench, your cats will not utilize it. Cat furniture Cat
This is constructed with man-made wood, and since it’s from a big company like Wayfair, we were unable to locate test results. However, the EPA’s TSCA Title VI certification is necessary for “composite wood products sold, supplied, offered for sale, manufactured, or imported in the United States

Cat Person’s Mesa Bowl is sort of what a work of art at MOMA would be, and Strampe adores it.
For $45, you receive a stand, tray, and bowl. For an adult cat, they must be raised bowls so that they do not strain their necks. And it was made wide to prevent whisker fatigue. The sole drawback is that it’s plastic, which holds bacteria and causes cat acne. (Some cats do develop acne without being around plastic at all. It’s an epidemic sweeping human and animal alike, I guess.) Cat Person appears to cycle URLs constantly, so if our link is 404ing, try clicking directly from the We contacted Cat Person about toxicity and never received a response. Strampe also appreciates the Serve and Store Set ($12) that comes with a dry food scoop, three wet food spoons, and three wet food lids.
